Thought is the process of our minds to consider something, or the product of that process which is an idea. We have thoughts and ideas all the time. They drive the way we go about our days and nights. The act of thinking about something can become obsessive, and actually come alive. And we may well suffer with it. So, can we change our thoughts? In The Book of Lane on page 16, I address this very subject. It takes discipline to change what we are thinking about to something else, however, with practice, we can – pause to know what our thought is, evaluate it, and then consider another thought. Try it: when you have a thought that you don’t want to have, think, think, think about something else. Put your mind on another thought…..let’s say you are obsessing about something sad you saw on Facebook….think about something that makes you happy. Switch your thoughts or substitute one for the other. What freedom there is to “Change Your Thinking, Change Your Life,” page 130. Life is too short – start changing your thinking around so you are happy. As Abraham Lincoln said, “We are as happy as we make up our minds to be.” I love to pursue, “Freedom from the past, or anything for that matter, always comes the very instant we stop thinking about it.” The last three sentences of “Can You Change Your Thoughts?” poignantly state: “It is very important to be careful what we think, as our thoughts affect our emotions. Our emotions affect our decisions. Our decisions affect our lives.”
