What Comforts You?
This is a question that I like to ask because it elicits so many different responses and they all are relevant. I hear prayer a lot, and interestingly so, my pets. Think about it? It is important that we find comfort because comfort means a sense of well being, being relaxed, and feeling lessened mental and or physical pain. And often having a feeling of freedom from worry, stress, or disappointment. It would be wonderful if we all could find comfort in someone besides ourselves; however, a study was done where it was found 48% of the Americans are lonely, and over 50% have no one to talk to. I can’t quote the study, but you get the point. So where does that leave these people, or us, as the case may be? It leaves so many of us with depression and anxiety because let’s face it the world is pretty frustrating and can be disturbing. We need direction, I do anyway, to find joy and meaning in our lives. So if we can’t find help and comfort from without as most of us did from our parents at least, it is necessary to turn within and that is the best route anyway isn’t it? And we are trying. For example, oddly so, something that makes me feel inspired are the quotes on my Facebook pages. And that is external but causes internal reactions. Whatever helps, to be healthy we need to find enough comfort in any way we can to free our minds from everyday stress, and rejuvenate and reflect.

November 20, 2017 at 8:06 amInteresting post. I agree that finding things that comfort you is very important. The key is to find things that comfort you that come from within, rather than without. As I spend most of my days by myself due to chronic illness, I can relate to feeling lonely. However, I find that when I find things to do that comfort me, and more importantly, things to THINK that soothe me, I find that I am no longer feeling lonely. Cliché as it may sound, we really do have to be our own best friend.
Thank you for inspiring me to think about what comforts me. That is comforting in and of itself.
